In this video, we’re going to install Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8) on an unsupported Core 2 Duo MacBook. This guide applies to the MacBook 2,1 through 4,1 and c. While Apple only supports up to Mac OS X 10.7 Lion officially on the late 2007 MacBook, using the help of MLPostFactor, you can install up to OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion unofficially. Just beware that there might be some issues due to the incompatibility of newer OS software on officially unsupported hardware.
You may not remember the name of the security software thatplayed a huge role in TheNet, the 1995 Sandra Bullock thriller, but our own Dan Bashurdid, posting a note about it to our Facebook pagelast weekend. Maybe you’ve guessed by now - it shares a name with a newOS X 10.8 feature: Gatekeeper.

Hardmac’s Lionel reports that he’s successfully installed OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion on a Core 2Duo MacBook that is officially unsupported based on Apple’s list, usinga a procedure similar to the one described by Jamie Cruickshank and used for the Mac Pro2006.
Lionel cautions that with the lack of drivers for the GMA X3100graphics processor, there is no accelerated graphics, but he will tryto find some workaround, possibly grafting in the driver from Lion, andif that works he’ll publish the procedure in detail.

Yankee Group blogger Pim Bilderbeek notes that the late Steve Jobstold Drew Houston, founder and CEO of Dropbox, ’You’re a feature, not aproduct.’

Pocket-Lint’s Stuart Miles says Apple has confirmed that OS XMountain Lion, will be available only via the Mac App Store when itgoes on sale this summer.
That means Apple has finally abandoned all forms of hard media todistribute its operating systems and is likely to spell the end of theCD or DVD for software in the future as well. Miles notes that the MacApp Store is now the home for all Apple software, as well as forsoftware from companies such as Adobe and Intuit, and that Apple hasconfirmed to Pocket-lint that customers were not remotely interested inthe USB drive offering, commenting , ’It was an interesting test, butit turns out the App Store was just fine for getting the new OS.’
The new OS, which has been released as a developer preview, isexpected to be available for customers at a yet unspecified datesometime over the summer.

AppleTell’s Patrick Lutz says ifyou’ve checked out the new features to be included in OS X MountainLion, you know about Gatekeeper, the new security system that preventsusers from unintentionally installing malware. This new systembasically keeps apps that weren’t downloaded from the Mac App Store oran identified developer outside of the App Store from launching unlessusers change Gatekeeper’s default settings to allow them.
Lutz observes that with Gatekeeper, Apple is ramping up emphasis onhaving OS X apps distributed more within the Mac App Store rather thanthrough outside sources - albeit in the name of security - noting thatApple will be imposing these limitations (and your ability to changethem) within System Preferences under Security & Privacy, in whichyou’ll be able to manage all of Gatekeeper’s settings.
Users can bypass the Gatekeeper check (for now, at least, asMountain Lion is only in developer preview and Apple can easily changethis), but while Lutz appreciates Apple’s efforts to fight againstmalware in OS X, he wishes they’d take a different approach, contendingthat telling users that they want them to only go through Apple’sapproved channels for their software is a pretty scary move that hashim a bit worried.

The Register’s John Leyden notes that security watchers areexpressing reservations about whitelisting security that Apple plans tointegrate with OS X Mountain Lion this summer with a feature dubbedGatekeeper that restricts installation of downloaded applications basedon their source.
Leyden notes that while that’s a laudable aim from a system securityperspective, there may be less palatable consequences, notably thatGatekeeper could be a step along the road to making OS X as closed tounapproved developers as iOS is already, making it, ironically, a bitof a Trojan itself in another, more traditional context. To wit,extending the garden wall to surround OS X by stealth.
Leyden cites F-Secure security advisor Sean Sullivan commenting thatit’s not much of a reach to imagine revoking third-party peripheraldrivers in order to ’secure’ the Apple user experience on Macs, andobserving that while Gatekeeper is being touted as offering ’Morecontrol for you’ - ’I keep reading it as: more control over you.By 2014, I expect somebody out there will be jailbreaking theirMac.’
And apparently Gatekeeper ’security’ is pretty leaky as well.

With the vastrange of models, knowing what tools to set out for each repair isn’t aseasy as it sounds. Over the coming weeks, Harris will take brief looksat the list of tools required for Qualified Technicians to repair eachMac model, starting with the Mac mini.

It is pretty fast with NTFS transfers (slightly slower than OSX extended partitions obviously) and I’ve never had any problems mid-transfer or anything. For me, it’s always done what it said on the box, and now with V14 it’s got El Capitan compatibility, so no complaints here. If you’ve ever used a Wacom graphics tablet on your Mac, you will have installed the Wacom driver in order to access its settings. If you no longer use the tablet, or you suspect the driver is causing problems with your Mac, you can uninstall it. We’ll show you how to do that here.What the Wacom driver does
Wacom’s tablet and pen combinations have a number of different user-configurable settings such as pressure sensitivity and the functions of the buttons on both the tablet and the pen. In order to modify these settings, you need software on your Mac and that software is a Wacom driver, typically downloaded from Wacom’s website when you install the tablet.How to uninstall the Wacom driver manually
There are several steps to uninstalling the Wacom driver. Firstly, you should quit any running processes.
*Go to Applications > Utilities and launch Activity Monitor.
*Look for any processes with Wacom in their name.
*If you find any, select them and press the Quit Process button in the Activity Monitor toolbar.
Now, go to your Applications folder and find the Wacom Tablet folder. Drag it to the Trash and empty it.
Next, get rid of the Wacom System Preferences pane.
*Go to the Apple menu and choose System Preferences.
*Look at the bottom row of the main System Preferences window and locate the Wacom Tablet pane.
*Right-click on it and choose Remove “Wacom Tablet” Preferences Pane.
Finally, you need to remove any stray files that are lying around on your startup disk. Normally, you’d check these three locations in the Finder:
~/Library/Caches
~/Library/Container
~/Library/Preferences
To do that, go to the Go menu in the Finder and choose Go to Folder, and then paste each location, one at a time into the text box.
You may not find any Wacom files. If that’s the case, there’s another location to check, one that’s normally hidden from view.
*Go back to the Go menu and choose Go to Folder again.
*Paste this location into the text box: /private/var/db/receipts
*Look for files and folders that start “com.wacom”

Once you’ve completed all those steps, the Wacom driver should be completely uninstalled. However, there is a much easier way to complete the same task: use a dedicated uninstaller such as the one in CleanMyMac X. This utility can uninstall any application with the click of a couple of buttons, automatically removing all the files associated with the app.
There is an alternative to uninstalling the Wacom Driver completely. If you think you might use the tablet again in the future, or if your reason for uninstalling is because it’s causing problems for your Mac, you can try resetting it to see if that helps. Resetting an app means that you remove all of its preferences and settings files and force it to start again with a clean slate, as if it had just been downloaded. You can do that manually, however, it’s much quicker to use CleanMyMac X. Here’s how:
*Download, install, and launch CleanMyMac X.
*Choose the Uninstaller tool in the sidebar.
*Locate the Wacom driver in the list of apps and check the box next to it.
*Click the dropdown menu that currently says Uninstall.
*Choose Reset.
*Press the Reset button at the bottom of the window.
The Wacom driver will now be reset and all its preferences and settings will be gone. When you next run it, you’ll have to set it up and choose your preferences for the buttons and pressure sensitivity. However, it should run smoothly and not cause problems for your Mac.
As you can see, it’s straightforward to uninstall the Wacom driver from your Mac, especially if you use CleanMyMac X. However, it’s worth considering resetting it instead of uninstalling it completely — that way, you won’t have to re-download and install it again if you need to use it. You can do that with CleanMyMac X too.
Hopefully it works when they launch the new driver. Had a lot of issues with installing and updating their drivers in all the years that I’ve been using their tablets. Why, ohh why, does this company make so many crappy drivers for their very useful tablets. A Wacom tablet itself is a well-build product and not the cheapest. So it’s reasonable to expect a good working and up-to-date driver to work on every operating system in the market(MacOS an Windows). It’s the key to good usability of the product. Come on, Wacom!
Vista thoroughly deserved it’s bad rap. I still remember when we bought 3 new Acer laptops, with 3 new Brother printers. Connected them all up, new from the box, turned them all on, plugged a printer into each one, and each of the three machines (with nearly sequential serials) all behaved differently.
I have never seen anything like it. One laptop saw the printer and loaded the driver perfectly, one laptop thought about it for a bit before prompting us for a driver, and the third machine sat there scratching it’s ass.
@EdwardWestonNYC If you read the article you commented on, you would know that Apple provided Wacom (and everyone else) with the beta of the new OS months ago. As a developer, you have access to a new Apple OS a long time before it hits the servers for customer download. Apple are one of the best in that regard, and they know it is in their interest to help developers to prepare for a new OS.
Apple obviously are not responsible for the last minute urgency after months of ignoring a need for a change. I’ve seen the mad rush happen in software companies many times for different operating system changes. It kind of reminds me of the last minute studying for exams at college.:). It’s not surprising in the least. My cousin and I are both in the graphics, illustration and sign business and, have been utilizing Wacom tablets since they first came out. Many issues can be sourced back to their drivers - or lack thereof - through a simple process of elimination. At least on an Apple product.
Ironically, my cousin recently bought a Turcom tablet due to his frustration and, I’ve been researching as well. We all want a tablet that just works. (Note: I’m on El Capitan and he’s utilizing Sierra). And since I don’t have a Mac myself, I can’t say for sure, but it might work, but do all the features of the existing drivers and software work (ie. Can you reprogram the buttons and adjust other settings without issue)? It is a bit irritating that a big name hardware company like Wacom doesn’t have their stuff together yet, if this is in fact the case. I mean, MS and Apple release developer betas as much as 6-8 months ahead of the official releases, for this very reason: so developers and hw manufacturers can have their stuff ready for the actual release to the general public. Wacom does not work very well on Windows 10 either. For example, the Windows ’Start menu’ and the V60.xx and later versions of Chrome do not respond to the ’long press for right-click’ pen function.
A quick Google search shows that MANY people have this problem on various software packages. Wacom blame everyone except for themselves for the problems and the refuse to provide an updated driver. The Bamboo pen and touch driver was last updated in August 2015, supposedly for Win10 compatibility, but it sadly does not work correctly.

Unfortunately this is by design. Mounty is using the Apple kernel driver. It allows read/write mount of NTFS drives only with the ’nobrowse’ option. The mount point becomes hidden and disappears from Desktop and Finder menu. To make it easier to re-locate the drive I have added the ’Show in Finder’ option in Mounty menu.My USB stick will not re-mount. An alert is popping up telling me to re-attach the stick, but this doesn’t help.
This can happen when the USB stick is not cleanly unmounted from the Windows PC. If you simply unplug the USB stick from PC without using the little tray icon to detach the hardware correctly, the volume will be marked as ’not cleanly unmounted’. This is usually happen when not all files are written properly due to an unmount operation not finishing. The NTFS partition might be marked as ’dirty’ and the Apple NTFS driver cannot recover from that situation. Mounty will not delete anything by itself, please try to restore your files on a Windows PC using usual recovery s/w, i.e. chkdsk command line utility or professional tools like GetDataBack for Windows. If you do not own any Windows you can use tools for macOS that can deal with NTFS partition maintenance, like Paraogn Harddisk Manager or Tuxera Disk Manager.Sometimes the files are grayed out and cannot be modified anymore.

If you try to mount a Windows System partition, Mounty might fail when Hibernation feature is enabled. There is a Fast Start feature in Windows which might be enabled by default, and this is causing the drive to be locked. Within Windows running, you need to run the command powercfg /hibernate off in an admin powershell and restart Windows to disable this feature and remove the lock to enable it for Mounty.
